Court Ordered Counseling
Fresh Start Counseling Services has experience working with attorneys and courts for many types of arrests.
When someone is arrested they are to appear in court and the judge sometimes orders the person to go through treatment. Treatment is frequently an alternative to jail terms and other penalties. The theory behind court-ordered treatment is that some people lack internal, or personal, motivation necessary to stop unhealthy behavior. The judge’s order provides an external motivation for the person to enter treatment in order to change his or her behaviors. The behavior changes may reduce the number of crimes committed, the number of arrests and it may lead to an improved lifestyle. In the criminal justice system, the emphasis of court-ordered treatment is to reduce crime overall.
